Malisa and Nicole sat down opposite each other on Malisa's comfy green couches.
"What's a discipler?" Nicole asked. Before we tell you Malisa's answer, we need some background on Nicole.
Nicole grew up in LA and attended an African American church, but it
wasn't until college that her heart turned back to Jesus and she began
telling other students how Jesus transforms lives. She shared the gospel
with everyone from teammates to taxicab drivers and helped launch a movement
aimed at reaching every African American student on campus.
For three years, Nicole and Malisa would meet to study the bible together and share their faith. Toward the end of the conversations Malisa would always ask who Nicole had seen begin a relationship with Jesus that week. She almost always named off a few students that had heard and responded to the Gospel. Several of the students are current leaders now that Nicole has graduated.
"What's a discipler?" Nicole asked Malisa.
"Nicole, that's what I am. Someone that links arms with you, walks through life with you, challenges you in your relationship with Jesus and your ministry to others."
And that's what Nicole is now too.
Malisa and Brian bring over 18 years of campus ministry experience to their roles on the Boston Metro team. Together, we're working to raise up a new generation of students like Nicole whose lives are so radically transformed by the gospel that they can't help but share Christ with others and take others to do the same.
Brian and Malisa have different spiritual journeys. Brian grew up going to church (but it was more about going out to breakfast afterward) and gradually grew in his relationship with Jesus Christ. Malisa never heard the gospel growing but a woman named Nan shared the gospel with her in high school and her life was radically changed. We believe those life stories from Christian and un-Christian backgrounds allow us to see where students are coming from and connect well with them.
We have seen God take broken hearts both here and overseas and heal them
with His love and grace. We have seen students begin to consider Christ as
truth and then accept Him with all their heart. Our heart is that through
evangelism and discipleship God will continue to use us to show students the
truth of Christ and encourage them to live a passionate and authentic life
for Him.
The students who graduate from school in Boston (at Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Babson, BC, and 40 other top universities) go on to lead the world in every country and every industry. Imagine the impact they could make if they had as the central driving force in their life a relationship with Jesus Christ. Truly the entire world would be changed.
We spend our days meeting with these future world-changers, joining them on their spiritual journeys and pointing them toward Jesus Christ. But we can't do it alone. So we work to empower students as leaders to partner with us in our movements of evangelism and discipleship. We also need partners like you to pray and give financially to this vital work.
Would you consider giving a gift of $100, $200, $300 per month or some other monthly amount to support our work in Boston and around the world? Give Online Now
